Beyonce and Jay-Z Crazy In Love

Beyonce’s debut single as a solo artist, Beyonce and Jay-Z Crazy In Love, co-written by Beyonce, Richard Harrison and Jay-Z. The beats and horns are sampled from The Chilites Are You My Woman. After a successful career with Destiny’s Child Beyonce and Jay-Z Crazy In Love was the beginning of her solo recording career and hit the mark from the first beat.

Beyonce and Jay-Z Crazy In Love is a song that I get professional DJ requests almost regardless of genre of the rest of the music being played and works with all of them!

An interesting fact about Beyonce and Jay-Z Crazy In Love is that Jay-Z was called in last minute at 3:00a.m. to add his rap which he did without a pad or pencil in ten minutes! I guess they had the magic together and it just worked. Of course, they were married years later.

Pitbull and Ne-Yo Give Me Everything

I hesitated when choosing Pitbull and Ne-Yo Give Me Everything because as a ‘general rule’, I try not to support musicians that wear sunglasses indoors. It makes no sense and it speaks to someone who is working to create a quality brand more than a quality sound. I let it go since I wanted to focus  more on Ne-Yo more than Pitbull. By the way, Pitbull explained the reason behind choosing his stage name, saying about the dog “They bite to lock. The dog is too stupid to lose. And they’re outlawed in Dade County. They’re basically everything that I am. It’s been a constant fight.

Shaffer Chimere Smith, Jr. (born October 18, 1979), better known by his stage name Ne-Yo, is an American pop and R&B singer-songwriter, record producer, and actor.  Ne-Yo was born in Camden, Arkansas, and baptized as Shaffer Chimere Smith. “Chimere” is a name originating from the Igbo language in Nigeria meaning “God’s Deed”. His father is African American, and his mother is of mixed African American and Chinese descent; both were musicians. As a young child, he was raised by his mother alone after she separated from his father. In hopes of better opportunity, his mother relocated the family to Las Vegas, Nevada. Pitbull and Ne-Yo Give Me Everything is one of his greatest hits to date.

Both Pitbull and Ne-Yo Give Me Everything have been arrested in their lives. It appears that Ne-Yo has worked out some of his issues and seems headed to a healthier lifestyle. We can never hold it against an individual for making unwise choices unless they continue to do so, none of us are perfect. His sweet and soft voice and creative lyrics make him a popular and respected artist and producer in the Pop, R&B and Hip Hop communities.

Dance School With A Mission

Tonight I had the opportunity to enjoy a dance performance by The Everett Company Stage School in Providence, Rhode Island, A Hip Hop Holiday. It was fun seeing local youth dance with such passion, commitment and purpose.  Unfortunately, the media often portrays Hip Hop Culture as something bad and violent. Those who know better, are aware of the historical roots of Hip Hop as a Social Movement.

“By 1989, hip-hop had long since graduated from its humble, thrilling origins as innovative party music in the Bronx in the late 1970s. Hip-hop had become a movement, a collective platform for African-American youth to voice frustration and inspiration alike. It had spread through inner cities and as far as suburbia, but was still seen as a sort of underground and lacked the big pop stars and cash flow of genres like R&B or rock.” (Dead Prez)

For me, it was a means of those who needed a voice to find one and speak their minds through music, verse and poetry.  It was possibly the next wave of social movement after the Sixties.

Dance Saved My Life

Time, money and the record industry have shifted a significant majority of the popular mainstream Hip Hop artists message and style to meet the needs of White, suburban culture. Hip Hop often does not resemble the sound and voice of its humble beginnings as social movement for change.

Fortunately, there are many excellent dance schools like Everett that are keeping it alive and sharing it with youth of all shapes, colors and sizes. The dancers echo the deep commitment of their Creative Director, Sokeo Ros

It was a pleasure to support such a valuable piece of dance, education and culture for talented youth!

Teen DJ Party Music

Teen DJ Party Music. Recently, I was having fun hanging-out with a friend, her daughter and her daughter’s best friend.  They were singing the lyrics to Ke$ha’s “Die Young”. A minute later, they came running up to me all excited, “Michael, do you have Ke$ha “Die Young”?”

“I do.”

“Can you play it for us, please?” I was uploading some music to my Amazon Cloud Player and already had my iTunes library open.

“Of course!” It took but about thirty seconds to get the song playing and the girls smiling and dancing in the living room. About fouir minutes later full of giggles and cheering, “Michael, do you have any Britney Spears?”

“I have plenty of Britney Spears, what song do you want to hear?” I typed in her name and a whole list of songs came on the screen with two young girls crowding in front to see, while pointing at one song after another.

Finally, they looked at each other and simultaneously said to me, “All of them!”

“It will take all day since I have so many of her songs.”

“Great! Now we can dance all night!”  And so it began. We had an impromptu dance party of Teen DJ Party Music.

 Fun Teen DJ Party Music

This kind of thing reminds me how much fun Teen DJ Party can be for a professional DJ. It seems that many DJs and parents think there is some mystery to making a fantastic Teen DJ Party, for me it is simple; have all the latest and most popular dance songs for teens and turn the music on. I think many parents who are not familiar with their kids music tastes get fearful that others may not know the music as well and will have to hire a young DJ with little or no experience who may flirt with the teenagers and say and do things that parents don’t want at their parties. This is a genuine concern. The solution is easy; hire a true professional DJ that stays current of Teen DJ Party music and trends and is clean, respectful and attentive to yours and your teen party’s needs.

I invite yo to take your tine hiring the correct professional DJ for your teen dance party, whether a Sweet Sixteen, Birthday or Graduation Party Teen DJ Party.

Teen Parties Are Fun For DJs

One of the biggest thrills as a professional DJ is seeing young folks get-up and do their thing on the dance floor. They do not worry about looking silly or ‘acting like a teenager’ because they are teenagers.  They dance as soon as the music is cranked up and allowed to to have fun. In fact, sometimes we have to stop playing dance music so they will sit down to eat or the caterers and parents might get angry. This is one of the joys of a Teen Parties for a  DJ.

I have written about this before but I still get great joy in seeing how young people today enjoy Hip Hop, Pop, Dance, House, Rock and Country all at the same time. I was this way as a teenager but I was one of the few people I knew that allowed themselves to listen to many genres. Today it is common and acceptable for teens to mix genres and have fun with all of it.

I get asked asked every now and then, “How are you able to relate to teens as a professional DJ since you are so much older than them?”

My answers are simple; “I still feel like a teenager most of the time and I relate to their passion, excitement and energy. I appreciate that they will tell you what they feel whether it comes out pretty or not.” For me, as a guy who was a counselor and social worker with teens and families for more than fifteen years, I feel very comfortable in the presence of a group of teens. I think they feel the same way about me, at least most of them. They get a kick out the way that I do not worry how people view or feel about me and just be myself. I have some Sweet Sixteens coming-up and look forward to getting back to working teen parties, I miss it.

Professional Teen Party DJ

It did not occur to me all those years as a teen counselor, social worker and educator that I would get back into the professional DJ business and have the opportunity to use the skills I learned in another environment. True, I did DJ all the middle school dances at the middle school I worked at earlier this decade. You would think I would have made the connection, since I had been a full-time professional Teen Party DJ all the years previous to being a youth worker. I imagine if it was anybody but me I too would have seen the writing on the wall but I didn’t.  The good news is that I still gain the benefits without the obvious path recognized in advance.

I did the work I did because I like to be around teenagers. I know the rest of the world finds them challenging but to me they are one of the easiest groups to communicate with because they say what is on their mind if you create a space they feel comfortable in. When they are angry with you they tell you, when they are happy with you they tell you. When they want you to leave them alone they tell you.  When they want you to shut-up they tell you. I wish all of us would be that clear in our communication skills. Of course, they do not always choose the most mature means for doing so, but who does?

This is why I enjoy being a professional DJ and MC for youth events. When I am playing the right music, they let me know. When I am missing the mark, they will let me know even quicker. When it is an amazing night, they cannot stop sharing with you how much it has mean to them. I know most professional DJs would prefer not to ever have to deal with teenagers again; this is not the case with me. I love them!

One other aspect about providing music for teens today that I appreciate is the fact they can mix genres. When I was growing up, the rockers could not listen to dance music and the Top 40 kids were not welcome with any other group and you would never see kid listening country hanging with anybody who listened to anything else. The one exception is Soul, Funk and R&B. if it was good and it had he right groove, it crossed barriers with ease whether it be Sly and The Family Stone, The Jackson or anybody on the Motown label, we all enjoyed a food beat with fine melodies.

So I say, bring on the teen parties and let’s get this party started!

One more thing. Teens are the only people in the world who ever think I am still cool just because I do not care if I am cool or not. That alone makes them fun to hang out with!
