Wedding DJ Tips All Brides Should Know

I saw this interesting and fairly accurate list of Wedding DJ Tips for Brides on Perfect Wedding Guide.  It is not current but still offers decent Wedding DJ Tips. I am surprised more blog posts by wedding experts do not include a Wedding DJ Guarantee as essential for your wedding though.

Wedding DJ Tips All Brides Should Know

Although some people design and play their own reception soundtracks, the most common choice for pre-recorded music is a professional wedding DJ. Here are a few wedding DJ tips to consider when deciding on your music professionals for your wedding.

DJs not only play music, they can provide crowd-pleasing entertainment and even serve as masters of ceremonies. A DJ service often can supply special lighting, smoke and bubble machines, props and other effects. Because of the large number of songs that technology lets them provide, DJs are increasingly a fixture at wedding receptions.

Don’t make price your only consideration when you select a wedding DJ. Referrals are good, but seeing him or her perform in person is the best way to make a decision. There can be more for a DJ to do than just play music. You may need him or her to make introductions, schedule toasts and oversee the timing of activities.

Ask if the DJ service has a high-quality sound system. This is important because different sites have different acoustic requirements. Confirm that backup equipment is available. After all, even the best equipment can falter.

An essential Wedding DJ tip is simply communication. Let your DJ know your preferences and those songs not to play. Provide a schedule of events like the first dance, cake cutting and garter toss so there are no distractions. Other considerations include what the DJ will wear, whether he or she will take requests, the number of breaks planned, what equipment is needed, if you’ll have to supply anything and what his or her payment and cancellation policies are. Make sure the contract clearly outlines responsibilities and expectations. Also, make sure the DJ who turns up is the one you wanted.

As a fun Rhode Island DJ, I get hired for all kinds of non-DJ type situations. Theses days, I am Trivia Host at T.G.I. Fridays in North Dartmouth, MA. This specific Pub Trivia Game is called Tunes On Tap, musically based game of questions, “Name That Tune” and a final bonus round that is interactive!  The location is 455 State Rd, North Dartmouth, MA 02747 at 9:00.

pub quiz is a quiz held in a public house. These events are also called quiz nights or trivia nights and may be held in other settings. Pub quizzes may attract customers to a pub who are not found there on other days. The pub quiz is a modern example of a pub game. Though different pub quizzes can cover a range of formats and topics, they have many features in common.

Pub quizzes (also known as live trivia, or table quizzes) are often weekly events and will have an advertised start time, most often in the evening.

While specific formats vary, most pub quizzes depend on answers being written in response to questions which may themselves be written or announced by a Trivia Host.

Generally someone (either one of the bar staff or the Trivia Host will come around with pens and quiz papers, which may contain questions or may just be blank sheets for writing the answers on. A mixture of both is common, in which case often only the blank sheet is to be handed in. Traditionally a member of the team hands the answers in for adjudication to the quiz master or to the next team along for marking when the answers are called.

Trivia Night
A trivia night is a large group event, usually staged to benefit a charitable cause or organization.During a trivia night, a Trivia Host reads trivia questions split up into different categories or rounds. The questions are then answered by different groups of people in an audience. These groups, also known as “teams” or “tables,” typically consist of six to 12 people who have paid an admission fee to participate. At the end of each round, a representative from each team turns in its answers to a panel of judges who then calculate the scores for each team. The teams compete against one another with the top two or three teams receiving prizes.

Trivia nights are held throughout the United States, but are particularly popular in the St. Louis, Missouri metropolitan area, where upwards of 30 trivia nights occur on any given weekend. Urban Dictionary

On Wednesday nights in Fayetteville, N.C., groups of people gather at The Kickin’ Chicken for Team Trivia — a chance to hang out with friends, showcase knowledge of random facts, win some Chicken Bucks and even vie for an opportunity to go to the regional tournament in Raleigh. Pretty good entertainment for Hump Day!

Whether in London or Lexington, Sydney or San Francisco, it’s easy to find trivia nights (also known as quiz nights) at local bars and restaurants. These events are fun, popular and great for business.

Why’s that? Trivia night is more than just spending money on food and drinks. There’s the game aspect, which can draw a crowd on an otherwise slow night. And trivia night is a great way to create groups of regulars who will make it a recurring event on their social calendars. No one wants to let down their fellow team members so they’re more likely to come back than they would for an individual competition.

If a trivia night is just what your place needs, use these four questions to start making it happen.

  • Who: Who’ll be the Trivia Host and where will you find contestants?
  • What: What format of trivia should you use?
  • When: What night is the best? Choose one that you can make a standing date.
  • How: Should you plan it yourself or use one of the many companies that can create the event for a price?

You can also host a trivia night at a hall or large room as a fundraiser for your organization. TLC

5 Tips For Getting The Most Out Of Your Wedding DJ

This is an interesting article on getting the most out of your Rhode Island Wedding DJ. I can’t lie, much of it is offensive but unfortunately, many Rhode Island Wedding DJs need a Bride or Groom to be this “direct”. This is true for most of the younger, less experienced Wedding DJs that think being able to mix and dress a certain way makes the a good Rhode Island Wedding DJ. We have all been to weddings where the Rhode Island Wedding DJ just could not find a way to let the wedding be amazing, too busy being the spotlight. An exceptional Rhode Island Wedding DJ knows how to get out of the way and make certain all the shine on The Bride and Groom. This takes years of experience and mistakes before gaining enough humility and maturity. Let me know what you think about Sandy Malone’s blog post from The Huffington Post.

5 Tips For Getting The Most Out Of Your Wedding DJ

Posted: 02/08/2013 8:10 pm

Depending on where you come from, the things you take into consideration when choosing the music for your wedding are dramatically different. Back when I got married, I would NEVER have used a WeddingDJ in a million years, having coming from the school of thought that a Wedding DJ is a loud obnoxious creature who incites your guests to do dances you would prefer never be a part of your biggest day (Macarena, ChaCha, Slide, YMCA… I could go on forever). While my guests had fun dancing to the bands I selected both in Vieques and Washington, DC, now that I know more, I certainly wonder if we might have had a much, much better time if we’d had a good Wedding DJ with a good playlist instead.

With five-plus years of wedding planning experience, I’m here to tell you that not all Wedding DJs are created equal, and the good ones are worth their weight in gold. But even if you don’t necessarily have a whole bunch of DJ options for your wedding (the venue provides it or you’re getting married on an island that only has a couple of choices), you can structure your wedding playlist in a way that makes your wedding flow seamlessly even if the guy running the system is dumber than a box of rocks.

Here are some tips to help you set things up so that you can relax and enjoy the music you want to hear on your big day!

Getting The Most Out Of Your Wedding DJ - Rhode Island Wedding DJ

1) Establish up front that you are the CLIENT and you are in charge. Let him know if you don’t like a talker. Tell him if he has absolutely no room for independent judgment. If you don’t want to hear a single song that isn’t on your personal playlist, let him know. Lay out the ground rules and don’t be afraid to be a little bit aggressive and put it writing, asking him to acknowledge your requests. Many Wedding DJs prefer you be upfront and direct. Just don’t be rude about it. There’s a way to be demanding without being Bridezilla. Be a little nicer if he’s your only option at the venue.

2) Be very specific about your playlist and, if he doesn’t give you a good form to work with, create your own and include the following categories:

Ceremony

– Prelude music

– Music for seating the mothers

– Music for the bridesmaids’ processional

– Music for the bride’s processional

– Recessional music

Reception

– Cocktail music pre-entrance

– Entrance song

– First dance song

– Daddy/daughter dance song

– Mother/son dance song

– Cocktail music post-entrance

– Dinner music

– Cake cutting song

– Bouquet/garter toss songs

– Last dance

3) Decide whether you’re going to let the Wedding DJ take requests or not, and make sure you’re clear on the system with the Wedding DJ. If you’d prefer he not take requests, you can ask him to tell people that he doesn’t have the music being requested up to a certain point. If somebody gets aggressive, he might have to explain that the bride and groom have requested no spontaneous requests.

4) Be VERY SPECIFIC about your “Do Not Play” list. Those are the songs you really, really don’t want to hear at your wedding. You never know what your friends may request, and you’re better off making sure the Wedding DJ knows at the outset exactly how you feel about that. Trust me, “We are Family” can be a very awkward music selection in many groups.

5) Get your playlist to your Wedding DJ as early as possible. Every Wedding DJ has a different system, and many of them have to pull your playlist from their master systems, especially if you’re getting married somewhere like the tropics where the Wedding DJs might not have the most current systems. Some of them need time to make sure they have all your music ready in time for your wedding. At the very latest, have all song selections to your music master no less than 30 days prior to your wedding date. A full 90 days is even better.

Getting The Most Out Of Your Wedding DJ - Rhode Island Wedding DJ

If you’re not working with a wedding planner, or you don’t trust the recommendations of the venue’s banquet manager, do your own homework and research and see what other brides who got married in your area had to say about their own Wedding DJs. Angry and dissatisfied brides blog…fairly or not. But you’ll be able to tell who sounds like a bitter crazy person and who had a legitimately bad experience. Hopefully, you can learn something from their bad experiences rather than repeating them yourself.

Until next time, happy wedding planning from Weddings in Vieques and Weddings in Culebra!

This is an interesting and informative article on Rhode Island Wedding DJ Prices. There is plenty of helpful information for Brides and Grooms looking to hire your Wedding DJ for your wedding. Two points they do not cover in this article about Rhode Island Wedding DJ Prices that I think are very important: a Wedding DJ Guarantee and Multicultural Wedding DJ experience. It seems that having a DJ Guarantee wold be maybe the most important item in hiring your Wedding DJ, if not, how can you trust the Wedding DJ you want to hire for your Wedding? Similarly, a Wedding DJ that doe snot have extensive experience as a Multicultural Wedding DJ would make me nervous, how would you know if they are prepared and experienced performing at Weddings with a diverse mix of friends and family?

For many people getting married is one of the most important events of their life. It can also be one of the most expensive. There are many things to budget for, the wedding dress, venue hire, food and drink, the wedding cake and of course the evening entertainment. Rhode Island Wedding DJ prices can vary a lot and there are many things that you must taken into consideration.

Most DJs will be able to offer a range of packages to suit most budgets. They may charge per hour or a fixed fee for the event. Some will have set packages that include a number of hours (typically 4 hours) and then charge per hour for additional ones.

Rhode Island Wedding DJ Prices with your Rhode Island Wedding DJ

A good DJ should also be able to offer a range of optional extras. Such extras include a fog machine, programmable lighting, music videos and karaoke. Find out exactly what the DJ is offering as standard and what comes as extra. Choosing extras can quickly add to the wedding DJ’s price and blow your budget if you are not careful.

If you require music at the wedding ceremony as well as the reception then discuss this with the DJ. Many DJs will be able to cover the ceremony as well and play music while your guests wait and when the bride walks down the aisle. If you do want the DJ to cover the ceremony too then don’t forget to ask how much extra it will cost.

Rhode Island Wedding DJ prices can vary considerable from area to area with good DJs charging anything from $800 to $2000. To get an overview of prices in your area it is best phone a number of DJs and ask for a list of their rates. You can then set a reasonable budget and choose the right DJ for your wedding.

Choosing The Right DJ According to Rhode Island Wedding DJ Prices

Once you have fixed a budget and decided exactly what you will want your wedding DJ to do you can then choose your DJ. Initially you may talk to a prospective DJ on the phone or via email but you should always have a face to consultation with the DJ before hiring.

Meeting with a DJ in person will make it easier for you to tell if they can run a good party. There is nothing worse then having a party were everyone is sitting around with no one dancing. A good DJ will be able to encourage people onto the dance floor. Ask the DJ how they get people dancing and enjoying themselves.

You will want to choose the song for your first dance and probably some of the other music too. A good wedding DJ will be able to advise you on music and have a large collection of appropriate and popular music. Make sure that you discuss the playlist and first dance choice with your wedding DJ in advance of the wedding.

Many wedding DJs will have all their own equipment but some may rely on using some of the venues equipment. Find out which is the case so there are no suprises on the night.

Don’t be afraid to ask for references from previous clients and a live audition if you think it necessary.

Rhode Island Wedding DJ Prices with your Rhode Island Wedding DJ

Rhode Island Wedding DJ prices can vary greatly and having the right DJ can make a big difference to your wedding reception. Take your time in choosing a DJ, don’t just go with the cheapest to save money or with the most expensive because they must be the best. The right price is about getting the best value for your money so take your time and plan carefully.

Rhode Island Holiday DJ

As a Rhode Island Holiday DJ, I get excited every year when the calendar turns to November. To me, this means Holiday Parties are on their way! As a Rhode Island Holiday DJ, Holiday parties are one time during the year with a specialized script or playlist. The rest of the year for Weddings, Birthdays, Reunions, Anniversaries, Sweet Sixteens, Graduations and all other parties, the playlist is determined by the event and its planners. the Holiday parties only choose from songs that make sense for one month a year.

Rhode Island Holiday DJ – Planning a Holiday Party for Your Office or Company in Providence, Rhode Island

Providence RI is the Ideal City in Which to Celebrate the Season — Just Get Out of the Office and Head Downtown

It’s the festive time of the year again, and you want to celebrate the season with your co-workers? Don’t make the mistake of hosting the party in your office! Providence has a bevy of excellent restaurants, theaters, and museums, which are a much better choice for any seasonal gathering! When planning your company holiday party, research the great locations outside of the office if you truly want your coworkers to celebrate the season. Who can have fun in a cubicle? No one, that’s who!Have you ever seen the holiday party scene right in the beginning of Bridget Jones Diary when Bridget is wearing a silver tinsel headpiece and warbling some bad karaoke while standing on a desk? How about the scene during Seinfeld when Elaine busts a move in front of her co-workers only to be mortified later when her co-workers no longer respect her after seeing her bad dance moves? What about all the scenes during the Office when Michael does his best to host holiday parties at the local restaurant to the complete disdain of his employees? Don’t let this mortification happen to you or your office mates.Rhode Island Holiday DJ - RI Holiday DJ - Rhode Island Wedding DJ

The best bet is to choose somewhere tasteful, yet fun. If you are the restaurant types, book a table for everyone at one of the restaurants in downcity Providence. McCormick and Schmicks might have great seafood, but Trinity Rep has great beer. Make the decision based on the personality of your coworkers. Sure, your coworkers are not your friends, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a drink together… just don’t get sloppy drunk whatever you do.

Rhode Island Holiday DJ - RI Holiday DJ - Rhode Island Wedding DJ

Next, why not do something out of the ordinary? Book a block of tickets at Trinity Rep or the Black Rep to enjoy some great live theater and give everybody something new to talk about at the water cooler the next week. Trinity hosts the Christmas Carol, which is a great take on a traditional favorite, and it doesn’t cost must more than a fancy dinner. Or take the whole crew to the RISD art museum and enjoy the new Dale Chihuly exhibit. Grab a cup of coffee afterward and Tazza and enjoy the newest installment of the Providence Art Windows by wandering through the downtown streets. A little dose of culture never hurt anybody.

So, despite this advice, you’re still insisting that you want to plan a holiday party in your office? Ask everyone in the office to bring his or her favorite dish and host a holiday potluck in your conference room. Similarly, ask several of your co-workers to make music playlists for the event. Come up with fun games, and not the lame typical games either. Maybe you could design a silly office scavenger hunt that involves other offices in your building? Ditch the lame gift exchanges in lieu of gift certificates to local venues. Watch an episode of the Office and do exactly the opposite of what Angela does when she is planning holiday parties for the office.

Should I Choose a Wedding DJ or a Band for My Wedding Reception?

Wedding DJ vs. Band for my Wedding Reception - Rhode Island Wedding DJ

Wedding DJ V Band as a Wedding Performer

As a New Jersey wedding venue that’s hosted countless wedding receptions, we’ve heard the full spectrum of performers, from the smallest wedding DJ to some of the most talented wedding singers, wedding bands and orchestras. We’ve seen first-hand that even similar weddings in size, location, theme, décor, etc. can have an entirely different feel and energy depending on the type of wedding entertainment.  It’s an integral part of setting the mood, whether it’s serene and refined or upbeat and a footloose free-for-all.  The wedding music helps your guests to let go and enjoy the celebration; whether that’s due to the music itself, or the encouragement of the Wedding DJ or band leader acting as the MC.

Wedding DJ vs. Band for my Wedding Reception - Rhode Island Wedding DJ

Choosing between a wedding DJ or a live wedding band is often first a matter of budget.  In general, Wedding DJs typically cost less. Of course this doesn’t mean that wedding DJs are any less skilled at what they do. But a live wedding band has more people to pay, more equipment, and of course there’s the added consideration for the talent of incorporating instruments and vocals. Costs will typically increase on the size, experience, and breadth of the skill set of the band as well as the time of year and how long you want them to perform.

Wedding DJ vs. Band for my Wedding Reception - Rhode Island Wedding DJ

Once you’ve factored budget into your wedding planning decisions, the next consideration is the overall vibe and feel you’d like to achieve. The type of music you’re shooting for, for example, may affect what works best. Big band and swing music often are more impressive when performed live. And if you’re having a Great Gatsby wedding theme, live performers, especially if they’re playing jazz-age music (and dressed accordingly) can really add to the authentic feel of your wedding theme. Wedding DJs, on the other hand, can much more easily keep up the pace and rhythm of the night without stop or a dip in energy. Live performers can sometimes have an off night, but recorded music is nothing if not consistent.

The decision to select a wedding DJ or a wedding band also comes down to the amount of variety you’re looking for in the music for your wedding reception. Do you and your fiancé have different tastes in music? Do you want to include a mix of traditional wedding music, classic favorites, a little something for the older generations, and some pop music from today? The more varied your wish list of wedding songs, the more difficult it will be for a live band to span the wide variety of genres well. A Wedding DJ with a vast collection of songs can much more easily switch from country to classic, and even fulfill the unexpected requests on the day.

Depending on your preference, each has its own pros and cons. A wedding band can certainly be much more unique and distinctive; and live music always has a more authentic feel and plays a larger role in the overall aesthetic of the night. But a Wedding DJ will deliver the songs, whether slow and romantic or upbeat and fun, just as you and your guests remember them, making it all that much more easy to connect with and enjoy.

Wedding DJ vs. Band for my Wedding Reception - Rhode Island Wedding DJ

Whether you opt for a Wedding DJ or a band, be sure you get a true sense of the quality of how they perform, their level of professionalism, how their personalities in person might dictate their personas when performing, and how well they can work a crowd.  At the end of the day, good music, well performed, will get your guests on the dance floor and leave them all with happy, lasting memories of celebrating your special day with you.

Wildlight Twirl Me Featuring The Polish Amassador

For the Polish Ambassador project, born on the richly-colored streets of Chicago and San Francisco, infectious melody is paramount. However, this never overshadows the depth and harmonic complexity that have made the Ambassador a favorite amongst festival curators and beat aficionados worldwide.  Over the course of 6 years, his sound has dipped and swirled through a staggering range of styles, with each album exploring uncharted sonic territory.  Warm, analogue dreamwave; mind-altering glitch; world-infused groove; bass-fueled breaks; sexified down-tempo; electric lullabies; and psy-fi funk are just a few of the genres that have poured from the Ambassador’s soul into earbuds and ghetto-blasters across the galaxy.

Despite the political connotations of his name, the Ambassador is not a political partisan. Rather, he is a diplomat for a new paradigm rooted in creative joy, radical self-expression, and ecological principles.  As part of this mission, the Ambassador has committed to carbon-neutral touring, instigating exploratory dance, and igniting fan participation.

Flanked on the Ambassador’s left is visual artist Liminus, a master of translating dynamic, sonic landscapes into breathtaking video projection.  Liminus’s improvisational abilities are a perfect complement to the Ambassador’s custom-tailored audio transmission, and his presence on stage allows for an audio/visual synergy rarely witnessed in electronic music performance. Together, the duo will take you on a voyage that leaves you drenched in sweat, with a smile slapped on your face, and a heart busted wide open.

Jack Johnson (born May 18, 1975) is an American folk rock singer-songwriter, surfer, filmmaker, musician known for his work in the soft rock and acoustic genres. In 2001, he achieved commercial success after the release of his debut album, Brushfire Fairytales. He has since released five more albums, a number of EPs and surfing movies/soundtracks. He is also known for organizing an annual event, the Kōkua Festival. Notable songs from Johnson’s repertoire include “Upside Down“; “Flake“; “Sitting, Waiting, Wishing“; “If I Had Eyes“; “You and Your Heart“; “Taylor“; and “Better Together

On July 22, 2000, Johnson married his college sweetheart Kim. They have three children, two boys and a girl. Johnson lives on the North Shore of the island of Oahu in Hawaii. In an interview with Johnson, Ann Donahue from Billboard described Johnson’s family life by saying “There is often trouble in balancing the life of an artist, environmentalist, and family man, but Johnson seems to have the niche for such a challenge. This time around, he’s found a pace that agrees with him…bringing his family along so he can spend mornings with them sightseeing.” Both Johnson and his wife refuse to talk about or release any intimate information concerning their children

The song was chosen by Rob Brydon as one of his Desert Island Discs.

In 2008, Johnson and his wife Kim created the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation, a non-profit public charity supporting environmental, art, and music education worldwide. Jack and Kim Johnson also founded the Kokua Hawai’i Foundation in 2003. Johnson and his family work hard every year at festivals and concerts alike, to raise money for causes they feel are most important. Johnson recorded a cover of John Lennon‘s “Imagine” for the 2007 benefit album Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur, which was also included on the 2009 benefit album Rhythms del Mundo Classics. In talking about Johnson and his career choices, Rolling Stone wrote: “It is a typically generous move from Johnson, who has used his multi-platinum success to support causes he cares about.” Although the Johnson Ohana Charitable Foundation is a non-profit organization that “focuses on environmental, arts and music education,” it has raised more than $750,000 from 2009 to 2010 to give away. Johnson was in OsakaJapan on his To The Sea 2010 World Tour at the time of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami in northern Japan. He was in a hotel with his family when it struck. After having to postpone the rest of his tour, he donated $50,000 to GlobalGiving‘s Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund.

On September 22, 2012 he donated his time to play a few songs at Farm Aid 2012 in Hershey,PA. Later in 2012, Jack donated $50,000 for Hurricane Sandy relief and added links on his website for others to donate:

After years of touring and surfing along the East Coast, I have made so many great friends. It is heartbreaking to see the images and hear their stories. I just made donations to help recover and relief efforts for Hurricane Sandy. Below is a list of groups you can support. If you can’t donate money, you can donate food, supplies or your time. Our East Coast family, friends and neighbors need our help. Aloha- Jack

Creating the Perfect Wedding Playlist with Your Wedding DJ

So you found the right DJ for your wedding? Great! Now you need to work together to create your perfect wedding playlist. Here are some tips for making the most of your music:

Find your favorite tracks.   Note the genre and style; are you looking for a more classic vibe, prefer Top 40, or want a balance of both or want a variety of genres or something completely different?  Think about the following questions as you put your favorites together.

What is in your top 25 most played playlist on your iPod?

What’s the one album that is a must have if you were stuck on a deserted island?

What songs have special meaning for you?

Discuss with your DJ. Having a conversation beforehand with your DJ and outlining your must haves, do not play songs and pointing to a few select themes will help your wedding DJ build a cohesive playlist.  The best wedding DJs will be equally as accommodating if you have a list that’s 50 pages long or one with a couple of songs on it.
